Le thème général de mes travaux de recherche s'articule autour des changements océanographiques, climatiques et environnementaux dans les milieux marins de moyennes à hautes latitudes à l'échelle des derniers milliers d'années.
Mon programme de recherche consiste en grande partie à étudier les assemblages de microfossiles organiques comme bioindicateurs des conditions environnementales. En particulier, j'apporte une attention soutenue aux relations qui lient la distribution des assemblages de kystes de dinoflagellés (algues unicellulaires) et les conditions hydrographiques et environnementales, l'objectif étant de développer des approches quantitatives pour reconstituer les paramètres du climat ou de l’océan tels les température et salinité, donc la densité, ainsi que le couvert de glace de mer. Or, ces paramètres jouent un rôle déterminant sur la circulation thermohaline des océans, les flux de chaleur latitudinaux et les bilans d'énergie à l'interface océan-atmosphère. Le programme de recherche vise ainsi à élucider des questions fondamentales concernant la dynamique de l'océan et du climat selon des échelles de temps millénaires et séculaires, avec une attention particulière pour les milieux arctiques et subarctiques. Les questions abordées concernent notamment les interactions océan-climat sous l’effet de variation de niveaux marins, d’insolation ou d’apports d’eau douce vers l’océan. Par ailleurs, plusieurs études en cours concernent les changements récents de la qualité de l’environnement marin côtier ou estuarien.
